"Indira Nagar Ka Goonda": Prasad's Witty Take On Spat With Sohail Is Viral

The on-field rivalry between Venkatesh Prasad and Aamir Sohail during the India vs Pakistan match in the Cricket World Cup 1996 quarter-finals holds a special place in history books. Any match between India and Pakistan guarantee a competitive environment and the two cricketers took it to another level with their battle. Anwar slammed a delivery from Prasad on the off-side and on the next ball, he pointed towards that direction once again to suggest that he will be repeating his feat. However, Prasad had a different ending in mind as his next delivery crashed into Sohail's stumps to leave him stunned. A fan on social media asked Prasad to react on the famous dismissal and the former Indian cricket team fast bowler came up with an extremely witty reply. "Indira Nagar ka goonda moment," he wrote on X (formerly Twitter). It was a reference to a phrase that former teammate Rahul Dravid used in a commercial. "No Alcohol, No...": Gambhir's 'Diet' For Sharp Memory Is A Must For 2024

Former Indian cricket team batter Gautam Gambhir has been a big follower of healthy lifestyle and over the years, he has openly talked about his strict diet and fitness regime. The left-hander once again reiterated his commitment to a heavy lifestyle while answering a question from a fan on social media. During a Q&A session on X (formerly known as Twitter), a fan enquired about the secret behind Gambhir's sharp memory and he was quick to respond - "Healthy boring diet. No alcohol, no smoking". Meanwhile, India's dream of winning a Test series in South Africa for the first time was ended inside three days as they crashed to an innings and 32 runs defeat at SuperSport Park in Centurion on Thursday. With the series consisting of only two matches they can at best earn a share of the honours if they win the second Test starting in Cape Town on Wednesday. India had no answer to South Africa's pace attack as they crashed to 131 all out in their secon...

India Star May Miss 2nd Test vs SA After Getting Badly Hit On Shoulder

The Indian team on Saturday received an injury scare after seam bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur suffered a blow on his shoulder at nets while batting. There is the possibility of him missing the second Test in Cape Town beginning on January 3, but the extent of the hit could be ascertained through scanning if required. At this moment, it couldn't be confirmed if his injury warrants scans. But Thakur was in considerable discomfort and couldn't bowl during the net session. Thakur, who was the first player to enter the throwdown nets, was hit on the left shoulder while facing throwdowns from batting coach Vikram Rathour. It happened around 15 minutes into the net session when Rathour delivered a throwdown that kicked up from length. Prasidh Krishna's Performance Hints At Bare Bench Strength

A few weeks ago, India's bowling coach Paras Mhambrey in an interview to PTI was very clear that no coach can claim credit to have created a pacer of Mohammed Shami's calibre. On the second and third day of the first Test against South Africa when Dean Elgar, David Bedingham and Marco Jansen were making a mockery of Shardul Thakur and debutant Prasidh Krishna, Shami's absence was felt like never before. It could be said with a degree of certainty that Prasidh might have played his first and last Test for some time and in the next game Ravindra Jadeja and Avesh Khan would walk into the playing XI in place of him and Shardul Thakur. The Indian fans got a reality check that the country's second line of red ball bowlers aren't exactly finished products and the days of dominance due to Jasprit Bumrah, Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav could be all but over. Ishant and Umesh are unofficially done with their Test careers and Shami is nearer to end rat...

2nd Test: Pat Cummins The Hero As Australia Beat Pakistan To Win Series

A fired-up Pat Cummins bagged five wickets and 10 in the match to earn Australia a nail-biting 79-run win in the second Test and clinch the series against a battling Pakistan Friday. Set 317 for victory, the visitors put up a stellar fight as they chased their first Test triumph in Australia since 1995. But they were dismissed for 237, with the last five wickets falling for 18 runs. Cummins was the chief destroyer, taking 5-49 to go with his first innings 5-48 -- only the second 10-wicket haul of his Test career. Mitchell Starc chipped in with 4-55 as the tail collapsed after Shan Masood (60), Agha Salman (50) and Babar Azam (41) gave them a fighting chance. It was always going to be a tough task, with the highest-ever successful fourth innings run chase at the Melbourne Cricket Ground the 332-7 England managed in 1928, with no other team getting past 300. Opener Abdullah Shafique departed for four during a tricky session before lunch, caught by Usman Khawaja in the slips off...

Watch: Cameraman Catches Couple By Surprise, MCG Crowd Does This

Australia made a brave comeback on the third day of the second Test against Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Thursday. Mitchell Marsh hit a counter-attacking 96 in a fighting rescue mission with a dogged Steve Smith Thursday to help Australia build a 241-run lead and regain control of the second Test against Pakistan. The hosts were reeling at 16-4 after dismissing Pakistan for 264 in reply to their first innings 318 in Melbourne. But Marsh and Smith put their heads down to compile what could be a match-saving 153-run partnership. The match also saw funny moment on the second day when the cameraman panned towards a section of the crowd where a couple was sitting. They were caught by surprise as the MCG crowd cheered on. Watch: Warner's Special Gesture For Young Fan On Final MCG Appearance

Australia batter David Warner received a standing ovation as he played the last innings of his Test career at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Thursday. Warner, who scored a century in the first Test against Pakistan in Perth, registered scores of 38 and 6 in the ongoing Boxing Day Test at MCG. After being cleaned up by Mir Hamza in his final Test innings at MCG, Warner was not happy with his dismissal. However, the crowd at the MCG gave him a special send off. As the crowd applauded him with a special ovation, Warner looked visibly emotional as he waved his bat at the crowd and showed a thumps-up. As he was walking back to the dressing room, Warner made a young fan's day by handing his batting gloves to him. Mitchell Marsh's 96 Leads Australia Fightback After Pakistan Blitz

At stumps on day three, the hosts were 187-6 with Smith out for 50, off 176 balls, in the last over of the day, leaving Alex Carey unbeaten on 16. Shaheen Shah Afridi and Mir Hamza both took three wickets. It could have been a different story but Abdullah Shafique spilled a regulation catch in the slips when Marsh was on 20. Marsh eventually fell four runs short of a deserved century, but it took a superb one-handed diving catch at slip from Agha Salman to remove him. After Cummins took 5-48 and Nathan Lyon 4-73 to dismiss Pakistan, Australia needed ...

Watch: Rahul Brings Up Century With A Six, Kohli's Reaction Says It All

With Team India's backs against the wall, upstepped KL Rahul to deliver one of the finest innings of his career. The likes of Rohit Sharma , Shubman Gill , Virat Kohli , and Shreyas Iyer all faltered on a tricky pitch as India took on South Africa in 1st Test of the 2-match series. Rahul, forging little partnerships with lower-middle order batters and tailenders, registered his 8th Test century to take India to a respectable first innings total of 245 runs. India ended Day 1 at the score of 208/8, with Rahul leading the scoring charts with a score of 101. Rahul, however, had to play a gutsy knock at the end of the innings, playing some exquisite white-ball cricket shots to bring up his century. In fact, the wicket-keeper batter reached the 100-run mark with a stunning six on the bowling of South Afirca pacer Nandre Burger too. "If They Get To...": Bangar On Why India Haven't Won Test Series In SA

India will seek once again to breach the 'final frontier' for their Test team when they begin a two-match series at SuperSport Park on Tuesday. South Africa is the only regular Test-playing country where India have yet to win a series. India have played a total of 8 Test series in South Africa, out of which 7 went in the Proteas' favour with only one ending in a draw. Ahead of India's upcoming Test series in South Africa, former international batter Sanjay Bangar has opined why the team has not been able to win any Test series there. "India have not won Test series in South Africa because they play 2 Tests or 3-match Test series. If they get to play four or 5-match Test series, it would reflect in their performance," Bangar said while speaking on Star Sports. India have question marks over their batting, with Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane no longer in their plans. Both showed on previous tours an ability to withstand South Africa's fast bowler...

"Itna Mehnat Kia Hain Toh...": Rohit's Quip Leaves Reporters In Splits

Image
Indian cricket team skipper Rohit Sharma made it clear that a win in the Test series against South Africa will not compensate for the pain caused by the team's defeat in the Cricket World Cup 2023. However, in his trademark witty style, Rohit said that they have put a lot of effort in the past few months and they deserve to win something. Ahead of the first Test match between India and South Africa starting December 26 in Centurion, Rohit was asked about his feelings after the World Cup final loss against Australia and he said that all the players will surely be desperate to bounce back from that defeat. "We have never won a Test series in South Africa and it'll be a big thing if we do it here. I do not know whether it'll be able to take away the pain of World Cup defeat. If we are able to achieve it then it'll be a good thing. Itna Mehnat Kiya hai to kuch to chahiye humko ," Rohit said at the press conference. South Africa remains somewhat of a 'final ...

"You Are Going To Become A 'Medium Pacer'": Pak Legend Blasts Shaheen

The fast bowlers of Pakistan have come under the scanner after their lack of pace against Australia in the first Test in Perth. Pakistan are quite restricted in terms of putting up a quality pace bowling line-up with Naseem Shah nursing an injury and Haris Rauf opting out of the ongoing three-match Test series against Australia. Without experience, the majority of the burden fell on Shan Masood 's deputy Shaheen Shah Afridi, but even he struggled to generate pace. Criticising the left-arm pacer, Pakistan's pace legend Waqar Younis said that if he continues like this, he will become a 'medium pacer'. During the first Test, Afridi averaged around 130 kmph and saw a drop to a high 120 kmph in the second innings. "I am not really sure what is wrong with him. If he is not fit, if he has got some issues, he needs to go away from the game and fix that because if you just gonna carry on like that, you are going to become a medium pacer," Younis told ESPNcricinfo ...

Ex-Pakistan Star Accuses PCB Of 'Discrimination'. Internet Corrects Him

Former Pakistan cricket team spinner Danish Kaneria accused the Pakistan Cricket Board of 'sheer discrimination' for allegedly ignoring his Test record in Australia. Kaneria took to social media to share a graphic that listed Pakistan bowlers with the best performances in Australia and pointed out that despite taking 24 wickets in 5 matches, his name was missing. “Just look at the audacity of Pakistan Cricket Board. I took 24 wickets in 5 matches in Australia but they removed my name from the list. The living example of sheer discrimination against me,” he posted on X (formerly Twitter). Pakistan Government Bars PCB From Selling PSL, International Media Rights

Pakistan's caretaker government has stopped the PCB from selling media rights of international matches and the Pakistan Super League, forcing the Cricket Management Committee (CMC) head Zaka Ashraf to postpone his planned visit to Australia and seek a meeting with Prime Minister Anwar ul Haq Kakaar, who is also the chief patron of the board. The government's directive came just as the CMC, managing the affairs of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), had started the process of inviting bids for the sale of PSL and international cricket media rights. "The government's Ministry of Inter Provincial Coordination (sports) has issued a notification to the board making it clear that from now on, the CMC/PCB has to seek permission from the government before signing any major deal," a reliable source said on Sunday. He added the notification had even led Ashraf to postpone his planned visit to Australia and seek a meeting with caretaker Prime Minister, Anwar ul Haq Kakaar. ...

Gill To Not Open, Kohli At No. 4: Gavaskar Picks India XI For 1st SA Test

Legendary Indian cricket team Sunil Gavaskar picked the playing XI for the first Test match against South Africa starting December 26 in Centurion and there were a couple of massive changes in the batting order. Gavaskar picked Rohit Sharma and youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal as the openers with Shubman Gill coming out to bat at No.3.and Virat Kohli at No. 4. KL Rahul was his wicket-keeper pick with Shreyas Iyer accompanying him in the middle order. Gavaskar said that both Rahul and Shreyas are good batters and it will depend on the situation to decide who bats at No. 5 and who comes out at No. 6.  In the bowling department, Gavaskar picked both spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja in his playing XI. Among the pacers, the former India skipper picked Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj with Mukesh Kumar being his third choice. Meanwhile,  Ruturaj Gaikwad has been ruled out of the upcoming two-match Test series against South Africa, the Board of Con...

Watch - 'Seeing Kids Dying...': Khawaja Gets Emotional After ICC Reprimand

Bewildered by the ICC's decision to reprimand him for wearing a black armband during the first Test against Pakistan, Australia's Usman Khawaja on Friday said he will contest the charge as he had told the governing body it was for a "personal bereavement". Khawaja had worn a black armband during Australia's 360-run win over Pakistan in Perth last week. He had arrived for a training session on December 13 with "all lives are equal" and "freedom is a human right" inscribed on his batting spikes and had reportedly planned to wear them during the inaugural Test. "The ICC asked me day two (of the Perth Test) what (the black armband) was for, I told them it was for a personal bereavement. I never ever stated it was for anything else," Khawaja told reporters. Shaheen Could Be Rested For Third Test vs Australia To Manage Workload

Pakistan pace spearhead Shaheen Shah Afridi may be rested for the third and final Test against Australia in Sydney to manage his workload following the angry backlash the PCB faced after Khurrum Shahzad suffered a serious rib cage injury. Pakistan lost the opening Test at Perth by 360 runs with debutant Shahzad taking five wickets but he also got injured in the process and was ruled out of the Melbourne (December 26) and Sydney (January 3) Tests. Pakistan's strike bowler Afridi took just two wickets in Perth and the thinking is that, if the visitors also lose the Boxing Day Test, he will be rested for the final game in Sydney to keep him fresh for the crucial T20I series in New Zealand. A source said that the team management wants to manage the workload of the pace bowlers, especially Afridi, as the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA is less than six months away and the series against the Blackcaps will be crucial to their preparations. "The backlash the board and...

On Ind Having 21 ODI Debuts Since 2021, Chopra's 'Trigger Happy' Verdict

Former Indian cricket team opener Aakash Chopra believes that the team management has been quite 'trigger happy' when it comes to choosing players for ODIs and in some cases, they have picked players way too soon depending on recent performances. Chopra was reacting to a social media post that said that India have handed ODI debuts to 21 cricketers till now since 2011. The latest addition was Sai Sudharsan who played his first game during the ODI match against South Africa on Sunday. Chopra pointed out that although the statistic may point towards a depth in talent when it comes to the Indian cricket team, it also shows that the selectors have not stuck with players for a long time. 21 debutants in ODI too. It's alright to claim the depth in talent but so many players getting the India cap in such short time can't be correct. It highlights only two things—picking players way too soon…and trigger happy while dropping them and moving in a different… https://t.co/...
